Welcome to Lab-NuPABS

Teamwork is our strength

About

Lab-NuPABS is a leading research institution dedicated to improving human health through nutrition, molecular pathology (including cancer research), and sustainable plant biotechnology.
Serving as a key hub for research, training, and collaboration with national and international partners, our multidisciplinary teams work to advance nutritional science, decode disease mechanisms, develop novel therapies, and enhance plant-based solutions for better health and sustainability.

About Lab-NuPABS

The Lab-NuPABS (Laboratoire de Nutrition, Pathologie, Agro-Biotechnologie, et Santé) focuses primarily on human health in the context of nutrition and its various pathologies, as well as the role of sustainable biotechnological development in maintaining it.

Within the life sciences, the LAB-NUPABS is involved in three main areas: human nutrition and health; biomedical research, particularly in molecular pathology such as cancers in general and those related to nutrition; and plant biotechnology and sustainable development.

The LAB-NUPABS will develop research, training, and expertise activities by contributing to national, Ministry of Health, and international strategies and programs, as well as the FAO/WHO and United Nations programs, related to human nutrition, particularly the nutritional status of vulnerable populations, to which we have contributed for over fifteen years through nutritional and consumption surveys; the control and fight against non-communicable diseases, known as metabolic diseases; and the control and fight against obesity and overweight in young populations of both sexes.

Concerned with pathologies that represent real major public health problems, the LAB-NUPABS will focus on decoding the molecular mechanisms responsible for their development and/or progression (in the case of cancers, chronic diseases, etc.) and will strive to elucidate the resistance mechanisms that often lead patients to therapeutic impasses. This will enable the development of therapeutic alternatives and strategies likely to generate less resistance.

Regarding agrobiotechnology and sustainable development, the LAB-NUPABS focuses its attention on contributing to the protection of human health and plant production through in vitro and in vivo research, as well as the study of the biological activities of bioactive substances for their application in the field of nutrition.

It should be noted that several undergraduate and master's programs are offered within our department, for which the laboratory will provide an excellent opportunity for final-year projects and future doctoral programs. These specialties include: Food Science (L); Animal Biology and Physiology (L); Molecular Biology (L); Food, Nutrition, and Pathology (L); Cell Biology and Pathology (L and M); Microbial Biotechnology (L and M); Nutritional Biochemistry (L/M); and Applied Biochemistry (L/M).

Almost all members enrolled in this laboratory creation project have already defended their doctoral theses, and many are at the rank of Master or Associate Professor (B). The candidates enrolled in the thesis program include approximately ten doctoral students, two-thirds of whom are in their final stages. The LAB-NUPABS will serve as a training ground for doctoral and master's students whose dissertations and theses will be focused on well-targeted research themes that meet its research requirements and offer current topics of high interest and potential socioeconomic impact.

We collaborate with national universities (Ahmed Ben Bella University of Oran 1, Moulay Taher University of Saida, Mira Abderrahmane University of Bejaia, the Mentouri Brothers University of Constantine, the Institute of Nutrition, Food and Agro-Food Technologies (INATAA) of Constantine, Hassiba Benbouali University of Chlef, and the University of Bouira) as well as international universities (Ibn Tofail University of Kenitra and Rabat University in Morocco, and the University of Extremadura in Spain), with which we intend to strengthen our scientific ties by implementing this research laboratory creation project.

It should be noted that several international publications have been published, and several presentations and participations in renowned conferences and scientific events have been realized, with the organization of several workshops and seminars in the field of nutrition, such as the 1st CNDR 2015 (1st Conference on Nutrition and Diabetes during Ramadan).

Thus, the primary objective is to create a laboratory specializing in nutrition, human pathology, and agrobiotechnology applied to health.

Themes addressed by the laboratory:

  • Nutritional Prevention of Chronic Diseases
  • Nutritional and Physiological Mechanisms of Metabolic Diseases
  • Molecular Mechanisms of Human Diseases
  • Molecular Abnormalities of Cancer: Therapeutic Targeting
  • Epigenetic Disruptions and Human Diseases
  • Development and Evaluation of Substances of Interest (Nutritional, Antitumor, etc.) in Therapy
  • Study of Factors for Improving Plant Production
  • Agrobiotechnology in the Development of Bioprotection and Plant Health Control Processes
